RoboMill

With human-robot collaborations, you can polish any surface from a batch size of 1- without any programming knowledge.

Ensure the Finest Surface Finishing Quality.

The automated solution in the form of the Robomill system ensures reproducible quality at the highest level, regardless of the operator’s state of mind on the day.

The special feature of the Robomill principle: It is possible to teach the robot a new process within a few minutes. For this purpose, an operator shows the robot boundary points and orientation changes on the workpiece surface. After a short parameterization on our intuitive user interface, the robot starts the polishing process. This makes the polishing of tool shapes up to batch size 1 worthwhile – without any programming knowledge at all.

Key points

Robomill is a collaborative robot system for grinding and polishing applications. Use the Teaching By Demonstration technology to respond to customer requests or process changes at lightning speed. The system is compatible with robot models from different manufacturers, ranges and payloads.

Takes over up to 90 % of the polishing tasks

Monotonous tasks are transferred to the robot. The employee takes over particularly delicate areas and controls the robot

Setup time < 6 min

In just a few minutes, the system is set up thanks to an intuitive user interface and innovative assistance functions

Operates without CAD data

No geometry information is required from the workpiece to be machined

No programming skills required

A 30 min briefing is sufficient to be able to operate the system

Increases attractiveness of the workplace

Loads are transferred to the robot. The workplace becomes more interesting for technology-savvy younger people

Can be combined with roughness measurement

Non-contact optical measuring methods can supplement precision machining with quality assurance

You want to make your production more efficient through automation?

Contact us to find individually tailored solutions for your operation. In the last 40 years we have solved many more tasks than we can list here.

Why automate the process?

The robot can be used economically, particularly for high variant diversity and small batch sizes, and enables the important finishing process to be insourced. This shortens supply chains and enables a faster response to customer inquiries.

In addition to increasing efficiency, we also enhance the attractiveness of their workplaces. When done manually, the vibrations during the polishing process often cause circulation problems in the fingers and problems in the shoulders and elbows. Robomill solves this problem completely. Our system ensures ergonomic work in this production area and reduces employee turnover.

Teaching By Demonstration

Programming robots requires a lot of time, money and know-how? With the Teaching By Demonstration principle and our integrated path planning functions, we disprove this prejudice. Your polishing robot is already functional in two simple steps.

Step 1: Move the processing tool to the edge points of the surface to be processed as well as areas with orientation changes of the surface.

Step 2: Use our intuitive user interface to parameterize the robot path. Here, for example, a machining pattern, the contact force and the machining speed are specified.

New tasks can thus be adapted by the user within a very short time without having to spend money on external programmers.

Example surface inspection

Automation W+R has been focusing on surface inspection for over 40 years. We develop our own special detection processes. With these, we push the limits of what is technically reachable and can detect even the smallest defects such as dents/dells, scratches, notches, … even more reliably.

A specialty is the inspection of unpainted surfaces, for example sheet metal. These are usually more difficult to inspect than painted surfaces. But early inspection can save you even more costs. Our solutions range from the complete inspection of the entire car bodies with several robots, up to steel lamellas at a speed of 20 parts per second.

Palletizing and Depalletizing

We optimize your manufacturing processes with sophisticated, automated handling solutions – even in harsh, industrial environments.

Precise position determination as the key to automated handling

Using different measuring systems (2D, 3D or tactile), the palletizing robot determines the exact position of the workpieces to be picked up. This technology thus solves the greatest challenge of automatic palletizing.

Key points

Automated palletizing is another piece of the puzzle for high cost efficiency in your production.

Vision system for position detection

Product weight variable up to 200 kg

Up to 100parts/min

Barcode recognition system for product documentation

Multiple gripper for workpiece and intermediate layers

Pallet circulation system with pallet centering

Version 1: Measurement in 2D

In 2D measurement, the palletized material is detected by an image processing system and the position of the coordinates is transmitted to the robot controller.

Depending on the application, this can be sensor-guided (system integrated on the robot gripper) or static (sensor above the depalletizing area). Both variants ensure absolute safety when handling the workpieces.

Version 2: Measurement in 3D

In addition to measuring the position of the workpiece on the pallet using the X and Y coordinates, the height of the palletized goods is also determined.

Version 3: Mechanical Measuring Device

Another variant for detecting the position of the workpiece is traversing the workpieces with a tactile probe. Here, the theoretical position of the workpiece is checked at predefined reference positions and the exact position is calculated.
