The RoboNDT convinces by:

-location- and component-flexible applicability

-Partial automation of the inspection process through the combination of innovative air-ultrasonic inspection and MRK robotics

-Automated classification of detected defects from ultrasonic data

The system is based on an LBR iiwa and uses a 3D sensor for the scanning process, as well as a newly developed air-ultrasonic sensor for the inspection process.

The deployment of RoboNDT consists of five steps:

1. Manual positioning of the system in front of the test object
2. 3D scan of the test object. For this, the first scan positions are taught by the operator by pre-make. The 3D scan is performed in a measuring run based on the taught-in measuring positions.
3. Trajectory generation for the inspection process based on the 3D scan
4. Execution of the automatic air ultrasonic inspection
5. classification of the defects detected in the ultrasonic data

The Robomill system enables for the first time the efficient automation of a polishing and machining process without CAD data. The programming is implemented by teaching-by-demonstration with a MRK robot (human-robot collaboration). In short: the human leads, the robot follows.

The work process that follows the programming, which can take up to several hours, is carried out by the Robomill system. The operator does not need to have any programming knowledge. Robomill is particularly suitable for very small batch sizes down to batch size 1. A safety concept specially designed for the user also makes it possible to operate the system without any separating protective devices, even while the machining process is being carried out.

Until now, surface machining of molds or tools was usually still done manually. Robomill relieves the workers from tool vibrations and stressful postures. It thus prevents the resulting health complaints. The system also creates a major time advantage through uninterrupted use and faster response to customer requests and process changes. It also provides a quality advantage through consistent process quality despite varying initial situations, as well as a faster response capability through in-house processes of polishing and machining.

Our Assembly Day began with an exciting presentation on the topic of robot automation from batch size 1 by our Managing Director, André Peters. Immediately afterward, Professor Dr.-Ing. Kurt Spiegelmacher from the University of Kaiserslautern explained the motivation, approach and efficient implementation of robot automation in the assembly area using a practical example.

After interesting presentations and lunch together, a guided tour of the hall was followed by live demonstrations on the topic of assembly automation.

We were very pleased with the consistent positive feedback from the visitors and would like to thank them once again on behalf of the entire team for their participation, the intensive interest and the gratifying feedback.
